Six Flags Fiesta Texas/La Cantera/Stone Oak

History/Cultural Significance

At the foothills of the Texas Hill Country in North Central San Antonio, La Cantera (“the quarry”) is part of the rich history of native Indians, Spanish conquistadors and early Texas settlers. The land was mined for its limestone, the iconic building block of the region, until that resource was exhausted. In the mid-1980s, a master plan for reuse and redevelopment began. Today, La Cantera is a thriving area that attracts regional and international visitors with its shopping, dining, lodging, championship golf and entertainment, including Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Stone Oak is an upscale 4,300-acre master-planned, mixed-use community in far North Central San Antonio bordered on the east by Highway 281, on the west by Blanco Road and on the south by North Loop 1604. The area has many large and small shopping centers.

Key Area Highlights

Most of the restaurants in the Stone Oak/La Cantera area are large, fairly new and very popular with locals, especially on weekends. Aldaco's Stone Oak offers gorgeous views from the patio and is known for its avocado margaritas, chicken enchiladas and pastel tres leches cake.

Trilogy Pizza and Wine Bistro is a neighborhood favorite for brick-oven pizzas, salads, wine and beer. The menu at Wildfish Seafood Grille touts the freshest available seafood and prime Midwestern steaks, all enjoyed with views of the exhibition kitchen or al fresco on the fabulous patio. Aldino at the Vineyard serves authentic Italian food at lunch and dinner, where your choices include pizza, classic pasta dishes, steaks and seafood.

La Hacienda de Los Barrios is the expansive Mexican restaurant featured in a Food Network puffy taco throwdown between owner Diana Barrios-Treviño and TV chef Bobby Flay. Diana won, of course! Visit the restaurant for Tex-Mex, grilled meats, enchiladas and more. Sit a spell at Freetail Brewing Company, a locally owned brewery and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Check the blackboard for the daily beers on tap and order your food from the vast menu, featuring appetizers, pizza, burgers, salads and sandwiches.

Paesanos 1604, a northside favorite for Italian food, is housed in a beautiful building with indoor and outdoor dining. This is the home of the legendary Shrimp Paesano, just one of many scrumptious items on the menu. Ride the elevator up to Silo Elevated Cuisine & Bar, where fine dining awaits in a casually elegant setting.

The Chama Gaúcha Brazilian Steakhouse experience begins with a generous salad bar, fresh vegetables and exotic cheeses and is followed by tableside visits from roving guachos who offer skewers of grilled lamb, pork, chicken and beef.

Big'z Burger Joint is a great place for families because of its impressively large play area and shaded patio seating. The restaurant offers a selection of burgers, fries, hot dogs, salads and more.

Celebrated chef Stephan Pyle's Sustenio Restaurant and Bar at Éilan Hotel Resort & Spa specializes in modern Texas cuisine using ingredients from local Texas Hill Country farms. The menu, described as “wood-fired meets cast iron,” includes contemporary versions of Honey Fried Chicken and Hickory-Grilled Cowboy Ribeye, along with flatbreads, tacos, seafood and more.

Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar at The Shops at La Cantera is a “scratch only” kitchen that sources food locally and uses slow “live wood” cooking methods for grilling, smoking and roasting.

Visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas for fantastic thrills, including Batman™: The Ride, a world-class 4D free-fly coaster that immerses you in a high-speed Gotham City adventure. Prepare for even more thrills in May 2016 when three new mind-bending rides, Fireball, Hurricane Force 5 and Spinsanity, anchor the exciting new Fiesta Bay Boardwalk.
